STAMPtember 2019 with Tim Holtz & Simon Says Stamp

Hello all and welcome!

Have you heard the news? Tim Holtz just announced on Facebook Live a new set of stamps that he designed with Stampers Anonymous for Simon Says Stamp’s STAMPtember celebration!!! YAY!!

So, I’m back today to share some Halloween cards that I created using the new set.

This is a limited edition stamp set that is ONLY available through Simon Says Stamp…so if you have an inkling to get it..did you catch that? INK-ling, sorry, I couldn’t resist.. 😉 anyways, you should do it ASAP, because once they’re gone, they’re GONE!

Oh, how I LOVE this set…HOLY MOLY!

In years past, Tim has designed the stamps with a Christmas theme but this year, it’s for Halloween, YAY!! Not that I don’t love Christmas, because I do, it’s just so much fun to get your creep on.

This set does not disappoint, the creatures are full of all sorts of Halloween goodness.

To create each of the scenes, I made several creepy Halloween moon backgrounds using Distress Spray Stains and Oxide Spray. They were SO super easy and fun to create, that I went wild and made a bunch of them. When it came down to deciding which background to use for my example, it was just too hard, so figured I might as well use them to create a bunch of cards too!

…plus they went so well with the creatures and their big personalities.

Here’s a closer look at each of the creatures…

Oh my GOODNESS, aren’t they so much FUN?!

So, let’s get this Halloween stamping party started…

I started out by creating the moon backgrounds. I cut a piece of yupo paper with a circle from the Simon Says Stamps Nested Circle Wafer Dies Set (approximately 3″), and created a mask for the moon. Yupo paper was perfect to use because I was able to wipe it off after each sprayed color combo and then use it again and again.

I placed a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper onto my craft mat and placed the moon mask on top of the paper, then I lightly misted it with some water.

I spritzed my paper with Crushed Olive Spray Stain.

Then a mist of Bundled Sage Spray Stain.

then a mist of Black Soot Spray Stain.

and finally, a mist of Black Soot Oxide Spray at the top.

I removed the yupo circle and then dried the background with my heat tool.

Next, the Distress magical part…

After it was dry, I spritzed the moon with some water and watched the inks run towards the center of the circle. This added streaks and creepiness to the moon. Then I dried it with my heat tool again.

When it was dry, I dipped and smooshed the background into the leftover drips and droplets of ink and water that were left on the craft mat.

Oooooooh so, CREEPY!

This was only one of the combos I made…here are a few others!

Top Left: Black Soot, Black Soot Oxide, Brushed Corduroy, Mustard Seed. Top Right: Black Soot, Seedless Preserves, Dusty Concord, Bottom Left: Black Soot, Black Soot Oxide, Brushed Corduroy. Bottom Right: Black Soot, Black Soot Oxide, Crushed Olive.

So many colors, so little time…play and see what kind of combos you can dream up!

I fussy cut the creatures out of scrap paper to estimate approximately where they would be placed on my backgrounds.

Then began stamping the tree/lightening stamp from the Mr. Bones Stamp Set (CMS345). I used Black Soot Archival Ink and my Stamp Platform so that I could repeat the stamping and get a very black tree outline.

I stamped the trees randomly around the edges to create the scene. After they were stamped I embossed the trees with Clear Embossing Powder.

I cut branches using the branch from the Small Tattered Florals Thinlets set out of black cardstock, then sprayed each of them with a bit of Distress Resist Spray and let them dry. Then I began arranging the layouts of the cards.

Using my Stamp Platform, I stamped each of the creatures with Black Soot Archival Ink onto Distress Watercolor Paper and embossed them with Clear Embossing Powder. Using the Stamp Platform is super helpful because you can ink up your stamp again and again until you get a good crisp image.  After they were stamped and embossed I began coloring them with Distress Markers and a Detail Water Brush.

Next, I went to town fussy-cutting the creatures out.

I created little banners with the phrases for each creature and inked them with a coordinating color.

…and began arranging their layouts.

The banners were each embellished with an idea-ology nailhead that had been daubed with a bit of Antique Linen Distress Paint and Mushroom Alcohol Ink.

I messy-stitched around each of the backgrounds and then began adhering the cards together with pop-dots and distress collage medium.

With that, my cards were complete. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and are inspired to create a fun Halloween scene with these fabulous stamps and Distress Sprays. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have a FANTASTIC day!

Creatively yours,

Stacy
