An Early Christmas Treat

A Happy Hello!!

Remember me? I’m still out here in blog-land but have been very busy making super secret makes and new projects…plus, it’s summer and you know how that goes…I’ve been busy enjoying the warm weather and family time. I can’t hardly believe that the fourth of July is this week already!!! Where is this year going? Anyways…I hope that you all are well and have been busy creating and enjoying your summer.

Today I have a bit of an early Christmas present for you…did you catch the Facebook Live yesterday that Tim Holtz hosted for the new Chapter 3 Sizzix release? HOLY MOLY!! It was jam packed with Halloween and Christmas GOODNESS!!! If you didn’t catch it yesterday, you can watch it through these links…

HALLOWEEN and CHRISTMAS.

I was honored to be one of the lucky makers asked to create with the new Sizzix dies ahead of time! I am so grateful and super excited to start sharing what I made!

How Tim and his team can keep coming up with all these fabulous designs is beyond me! Year after year they seem to get better and better…

These are some tags I created using the fabulous new dies entitled Festive Things and Large Funky Festive.

They are the perfect size to combine with the small tag that comes with the Sizzix Sidekick and to embellish Christmas gift bags and treats.

These were all very easy to create… and what was my secret ingredient, besides the adorable new dies? The background papers I created with Distress Oxide and Spray Stains! Easy, quick and they make the tags pop!

Here’s a look at the papers…

and my inky fingers… inky fingers = a happy heart!

p.s.- your hands don’t have to get this inky, I just really get into my inking! 😉

Let’s begin…

As I mentioned, I started by creating the background papers and used these festive combos that I have pictured below.

Here’s the recipe for each color..

Green- Forest Moss & Bundled Sage Distress Sprays + Pumice Stone DOS & Mowed Lawn DOS + spritzes of water

Red- Festive Berries & Aged Mahogany + Fired Brick Distress Sprays + Fired Brick DOS + Peeled Paint DOS + spritzes of water

Yellow/Gold- Old Paper & Antique Linen (not pictured) + Fossilized Amber DOS & Vintage Photo DOS & Iced Spruce DOS + spritzes of water

I spritzed my Distress Watercolor paper with water first, then spritzed with the Spray Stains. I dried it with a heat tool and then spritzed the Oxide Sprays.  After the Oxide Spray was spritzed and dripped onto the paper, I added a very light mist of water over top of the paper to activate the oxide. Super EASY and FUN!! I did this to each individual color combo. Then when I had a good stack of Christmasy colors, I began cutting the layers with my dies.

The backgrounds of the tags were made by stamping 3 different background stamps from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous stamp sets, Stripes and Holiday (CMS281), Ornate and Lace (CMS348), and Music and Advert (CMS358).

I added the distress ink to the stamp, spritzed the stamp with a quick spritz of water, then randomly stamped the 3 different designs onto the watercolor paper. This is a SUPER EASY way to get a background made very quickly! Then I cut the background papers into tags and started layering the die cuts. I used a few accent stars from the idea-ology line and some Gold Metallic Paper Stash for the bows and bells.

I used Frayed Burlap, Forest Moss and Candied Apple Distress Inks for the backgrounds. The little phrases came from the Holiday Background Stamp, I just stamped it and trimmed out the phrases that I wanted…easy peasy!

The Holiday Background stamp it one of my favorite stamps, perfect for any Christmas make! 😉

Here are the tags before I blended each of their edges with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

All that was left was to do was to adhere the pieces onto the tags with popdots and add the ribbons.

The ribbon was made with Crinkle Ribbon, Distress Spray Stain, water and a heat tool!

Look at those yummy Christmas colors!!

And here they all are…all set and ready to be tied onto gifts! Merry Christmas!!

Thanks for stopping by…I hope you enjoyed the tutorial!

Be sure to subscribe to my blog and keep and eye out, I’ll be sharing more of the makes I created with the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 very soon!

Creatively yours,

Stacy

I liked the new dies, of course, but you made what appeared cartoonish images so elegant. Brilliant. I am going to look at the dies again with enlightened eyes. Wonderful backgrounds!
