Hello All and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
I’m so excited to be back posting and sharing all sorts of fun projects that I’ve been creating over the last few months…
I hope you all are well and were able to spend lots of time with your family and friends over the holidays. I celebrated with my family and by spending LOTS of creative time in my studio. What a wonderful gift this season brought!
Today, I’m back sharing a new die that was released for the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 Release. Tim had a launch party for them over on Facebook Live. What a privilege it was to be able to create some samples with them. I am blown away with the designs and innovations that he and Sizzix are able to do. So AMAZING!
If you didn’t have a chance to checkout the Facebook Live, you can check it out HERE. You are NOT going to want to miss it!
Plus, guess what??! …this is only the beginning!!!!!!!! He will be unveiling Chapter 2 at Creativation 2019 next week!!!! WOW!!… this year is truly starting out brilliantly!
So, let’s get this party started!
Today’s project features a card I created with the new Thinlet die titled Organic.
It is a thin die that cuts out the most intricate floral pattern. I fell in love with it instantly. It’s truly amazing how precise it cuts, even through watercolor paper. Organic is a very detailed thinlet and really speaks for itself. I thought a simple watercoloring with Distress Markers and a Detail Water Brush would be the perfect way to show it’s beauty.
I cut out the die using my Vagabond 2 and Precision Base Plate out of a piece of Watercolor Paper. In my opinion, the Precision Base is a MUST for this die and many of the new intricate and fine dies. It cuts it beautifully and all those tiny bits and pieces just pop out without tearing your paper.
I cut out the die and then trimmed it off of my piece of paper.
I selected a variety of Distress Markers (Fossilized Amber, Carved Pumpkin, Spiced Marmalade, Tattered Rose, Ground Expresso, Walnut Stain, Frayed Burlap, Antique Linen, Forest Moss, Shabby Shutters) and Distress Inks and began coloring the areas on my die. I started with the lighter colors, then with my Detail Water Brush, started blending the colors together to create that watercolor look. In between colors, I dried my piece with my Heat It Heat Tool.
When my coloring was complete, I blended all of the areas with a selection of Distress Inks and Oxides (Pumice Stone, Forest Moss, Bundled Sage Distress Inks and Antique Linen Oxide) Then I added some tiny dots of black to the centers of the flowers with my Black Soot Distress Marker.
With my sewing machine and another piece of watercolor paper, I stitched the piece onto the right and left side borders. In order to create the “lifted curved look” as I was stitching the final side, I slightly moved the die cut piece to give the card depth. I then trimmed off the extra edge on that side.
I typed my “birthday greetings” on a piece of watercolor paper, trimmed it, then blended it with some of the green distress inks that I had previously used, and inserted the thin piece in-between some of the cuts. Then I adhered it with Distress Collage Medium. I matted the card front onto a card base and with that, my card was complete.
Thank you so much for stopping by today and be sure to watch Tim Holtz on his Facebook Live’s this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Have a wonderful day!
Creatively yours,
Stacy

Your work really shines on this beautiful dimensional card; I love the creative way you’ve put this lovely die cut to work and water colored it . It’s one of my favorites and been on order since I first saw it. Can’t wait to play! Thank you for your inspiration and sharing this informative post! Best wishes in the New Year. Stunning project, beautiful colour combination and such a unique way to create dimension, Really enjoy following your creative journey!
Beautiful!
SO in LOVE with your card..such a Masterpiece!
So love this….Question, please…when you were finished with coloring the flowers, how did you ink the background? Dip and dry? Waterbrush? Blending tool or brush?
Hi Sherry! I actually colored a few of the areas with some of the Distress green markers and blended it with my water brush and then also blended some areas with the Distress Inks I listed in my supplies. Just small areas of both. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for stopping by! ♥️
This is a work of art! I’m so glad you are back and I hope you enjoyed the holiday season. You are such an inspiration to me.
such a beautiful card Stacy!! I love the 3D look!
Wow that is just stunning!! Love the watercolor look and the dimension you gave to it!
If I saw this die in the store I would have never bought it. I wouldn’t have understood what you could do with it. Your card is amazing! They should have used it on the front of the packaging!
