Hello friends! I’m back today to share and showcase the projects that I created for the new Tim Holtz Freespirit Fabrics Colorblock release. It is a wonderful new and colorful release and after seeing all the different things you can make with it, I hope that you are inspired! I have been not so patiently waiting to see all the beautiful projects that everyone made. It’s so exciting and if you’re anything like me, you will be craving more and more sewing projects to make with these wonderful new fabrics.
Today, I am sharing the projects and the links to several tutorials and patterns that I used to create them. But, I’ll go deeper into the “how to’s” over the next few weeks as I write up the tutorials. PS- once you fall into the Pinterest and Youtube sewing rabbit hole, it’s hard to stop your mind from coming up with all sorts of projects to make…and that’s exactly what happened to me. There are so many wonderful makers out there who share sewing patterns and tutorials for free, you will be amazed if you go looking!
Here is a peek at all the goodies I created…

First, I made a couple different types of coasters..
One is a no-sew coaster set made with a variety of the Colorblock cotton fabrics and cork sticky coaster that I found on Amazon no less… here is the link to those coasters on Amazon, and the tutorial that I found on Pinterest.

The second was a set of sewn coasters and I used the largest cotton Colorblock pattern and chose a set of 4 squares to be the color combo focus.
The next project was to create a pincushion…and I wanted it to have an Art theme to go with Colorblock.
I found an old chippy painted wood drawer that had four separate sections to hold all sorts of vintage art goodies and decided to make a pincushion in one of the sections. I mean, how cool is this! The Colorblock fabrics go so perfectly with any one of my vintage art supplies…it’s that whole bright colors but still distressed thing! I absolutely love how it turned out. I decided since this was a rectangle space, that I would make a gusseted pincushion that would have squared corners. I don’t really have a pattern for this one, I just searched for gusseted pincushions and used the measurements to fit the space I had to fill.

And the next…A Distress Watercolor Pencil Roll, I mean, why NOT??? After all, who wouldn’t want to look at all those lovelies lined up together in a decorative and artistic way!

I designed the pencil roll to hold 2 sets of the Distress Watercolor Pencils, plus, a small inky binky that I cut and stitched to finish which came from a large flour sack towel, like the ones Tim uses to dry up inky messes! The center pocket holds the small inky binky and a few paint brushes.

I loosely based this pattern on a design that I saw on Youtube. Below is where you’ll find the tutorial, but I took a lot of creative license and made it to my own specifications.

Next, I found a really cute design for little pouches and then using the pattern, enlarged it to make a larger pouch… perfect for all sorts of small artsy things, to store things in your purse or give as a gift card holder. Pouches are a necessity!
I love how they turned out and added vintage buttons (you knew I would). The full tutorials are on youtube from Sotak Handmade…her video tutorials are super easy to follow and very detailed… which made making these pouches so fun!

And while I was visiting Sotak Handmade, I ran across this awesome tutorial for a Scissor Pouch…which I tweaked to fit the Tim Holtz Tonic Craft Sheers 9.5″ Scissors. I LOVE it! You’ll find so many awesome things to make from her in the link below!

Thanks so much for stopping by and keep an eye out as I’ll be sharing more details of these projects in the weeks to come.
Creatively yours,
Stacy

If you would consider selling the watercolor pencil pouch, I’m interested…..it’s fabulous!
Love your projects!! You are so extremely talented 🫶
I enjoyed Tim’s live so much and seeing all the different projects that the makers had created. Thanks so much for giving links to all the patterns you used. I’m off to have a look at all them now! Stef x
Stacey your projects are so awesome and I love the TH fabric. The fabric was a perfect fit for each project and I can’t wait to make some of my own. You are a wonderful inspiration to all of us who love to create. Thank You
Very pretty!
Stacy, your makes are all beautiful and so useful too! I love the pincushion idea and the scissor holder, both of which I am going to attempt to make with the new Colorblock fabric. Thank you for the inspiration, as always!
Such a lovely array of sewing projects. They look great in the new color block Tim Holtz fabric.
OMG- you blew me away with the pencil roll. You could make a fortune selling these on etsy!!! Would you consider selling a pattern with the measurements you used? Which fabric did you use and how many metres of fabric and lining are needed for it?
Love the little purse.
