Hello friends! I know…it’s shocking! Two posts in one week??!!!? (it could be 3 if I get my act together and can get another post done for the idea-ology release this coming Saturday, but better not hold your breath, sometimes life jumps in and has other ideas) Hence my disappearance for a bit, life has been life-ing lately and we had several out of our control things happen, both good and bad, so my blog was left to fend for itself. But, if I have any say, I will be keeping more creative things heading your way soon! So keep an eye out!
Anyways, I am back today with a tutorial for the tags that I created for the latest release from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous. The release is a wonderful one…if you missed it, be sure to hop over to Tim’s Youtube channel and watch the replay. It was full with beautiful new stamp sets, stencils and of course, FABULOUS inspiration!! CLICK HERE for Tim’s Youtube channel
The set used for these tags was the new Forgotten Garden CMS481…now you all know that I love a good flower stamp, but these…they have to be the coolest vintage flowers yet. The little tag/tape piece pushes these stamps to the top of my favorites list!
To decorate and color the tags, I used my favorite new Distress Watercolor Pencils & some loose, messy, sketchy scribbles that fit the theme of the stamps so perfectly! And to add to the simple charm of the set, I used some Distress Antique Linen Glaze to create the look of vintage aged cello tape. So, let’s get to making them!
I started with the backgrounds to stamp the flowers onto…that started with Distress Watercolor Paper that was spritzed with water, then with some Pumice Stone, Frayed Burlap and Antique Linen Distress Stains, followed by some more water, then dried with a heat tool. This gave the paper a vintage look even before I started stamping.
Then the flower images were stamped onto the dried backgrounds using Black Soot Distress Archival Ink.
Then I loosely scribbled & colored within the images with the watercolor pencils. Then some random scribbles and sketchy bits around the backgrounds. Then I used a detail water brush to blend the colors.
Here’s a little closeup after the colors were blended with water, then dried with a heat tool.
Next, I scribbled some Hickory Smoke Watercolor Pencil within all the label/tape areas and loosely around the flowers to give them a more sketchy look.
Then, using my detail water brush, I blended some of the color within the tape area and sprinkled on some Antique Linen Glaze. The water was used as the sticky medium to get the powder to cling to the area, then I embossed the with an embossing gun.
Once I had them all embossed, I began cutting them down into a small tag size (approx. 2.25″x3.5″). I then decided to add some tiny handwritten font into the background using a stamp that I found in the Tiny Toadstools CMS377. To get the washed out look, I inked up the written stamp with black soot distress ink, spritzed it with a little bit of water, then stamped it randomly into the background.
I roughed up the edges of each tag using an edge distressing tool. I cut out background papers that had been sprayed with a variety of distress spray stains, then matted the flower backgrounds to the fronts. I cut out tag reinforcements from scrap papers using the Sizzix Framed Tags set. I punched holes in the corners of the tags, then adhered the reinforcement and tied on a piece of cotton string.
With that, my tags were complete! Thanks, as always, for visiting and please be sure to check back or subscribe to my email mailing list. I appreciate you all!
Creatively yours!
Stacy

I love how you used this stamp set…the tags look so delicate. I liked the stamp set from the minute it came out…I may have to breakdown and get it. It’s the little pieces of “tape” that set it apart from similar stamps.

Thanks for the tutorial. I love this stamp set also. Antique linen glaze is a genius idea for the tape. I’ll have to go back in to add that to my cards. Your sharing is much appreciated.
