Hello friends! I hope all is well and that this post finds you well. I have a new project to share with you today..this one featuring the new idea-ology Wallflower Vault Series Patterned Paper from Tim Holtz. In this case, I used the 8×8 paper pack, which was perfect for use with this Large Square Vignette Box. I decided to go with a Bee theme as spring is coming and I can’t wait to get back to planting flowers and supplying the bees with plenty of pollen.

The Wallflower Paper is BEAUTIFUL! Perfect for spring! You can see a closer look at the paper I chose below.

One of my favorite parts of this project…besides the idea-ology bee all painted up, is the honeycomb edge of the project. This happened completely by chance. I was playing with the new Sizzix Vault Side Order Floristry and the set comes with a 2D Embossing Folder. The Folder is the cutest thing and fits within the Sizzix Sidekick. It is a honeycomb pattern and when inked up, embosses and prints the beautiful pattern onto paper.

I added Lost Shadow Distress Paint to the edges of the vignette box, then dried it with a heat tool.

I went through the pack of Wallflower paper and decided on the pattern to use, then trimmed the papers to fit within the box and the outside and inside edges.

In the photo below, you can see all the paper pieces trimmed to fit on the box. These papers went with the bee theme perfectly! They’re beautiful! I adhered the papers to the vignette box using collage medium, then set it aside to dry.

To create the paper for the borders, I smooshed a combination of Wild Honey and Fossilized Amber onto the inside of the embossing folder, then, using Vintage Photo Archival ink, smooshed on some ink over the yellows, spritzed the folder with water, then ran the folder through the Sidekick using pieces of Mixed Media paper.
This embosses the paper and leaves the inky pattern on the paper. It is so yummy!

I trimmed a couple of the pieces of embossed and inky pattern into strips using scissors, then using my trimmer, trimmed the honeycomb strip down the center to create a perfect size piece for the edge of the vignette box.

I kept the strips that were cut in half paired so that the strips could be adhered matching to the inside and outside edge of the box.

Here is a better look at the inside of the finished box, you can see that the matching strips along all four edges.

Now, let’s make the inside papers…
Using a palette knife, Distress Kraft Mixed Media Paper, Distress Opaque Crackle Paste and the mini Floral Layering Stencil. I added the pattern to the paper through the stencil. While the paste was still wet, I sprinkled a combination of several Embossing Glazes over the paste. I tapped off the extra powder by tapping the powders from the bottom over the pattern, then I set it aside to dry and crackle. Here is a link to a more detailed explanation of this technique.

After the paste was dry and crackled, I embossed the embossing glazes using a heat tool, then after the glazes were melted, I spritzed the paper with water and a combination of spray stains that included, Ground Espresso Oxide, Gathered Twigs Spray Stain and Specimen Distress Mica Spray. Again, I dried the paper using a heat tool. Once the paper was dry, I spritzed the paper with water, let it sit for a bit, then picked up the drips with a towel. That is what creates the mottled look.

And here’s the close up…yum!

Such a fun way to add visual texture to paper.

Then, I worked on the bee…
I rubbed an idea-ology bee and Optical lens with Antique Linen Distress Paint, the set it aside to dry.

I started painting the bee with some alcohol inks, then let it dry and added some paint stripes to the bee, then I set it aside to dry.

Once the paint was dry, I used a combination of Mushroom Alcohol Ink and Alcohol Inks Alloy in Statue and rubbed a little onto the bee to give it an antique look. The Optical Lens and an idea-ology milk cap were rubbed with Black Soot Distress Paint.

I rubbed the edges of the vignette box with a Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to add age to the box.

I had some leftover pieces of “honey comb” from a sizzix Pattern Repeat Thinlet Die in my stash, so I adhered some of the pieces to a scrap of paper, then placed it within a jar. I colored up some paper bouquet flowers using Spray Stains, paints and glitter. then I adhered it with some scraps of mummy cloth and a stick, inside the jar.
I tied a scrap of ribbon around the jar, then set it aside.

I adhered the milk cap to the back of the Optical Lens and then adhered the bee to the front of the lens. I set the optical lens aside to dry, once it was dry, I rubbed the lens with the Gathered Twigs Distress Crayon.
The idea-ology Drawer Pull was rubbed with Antique Linen Distress Paint then it was set aside to dry. Once dry, I rubbed the pull with Collage Medium then sprinkled it with Fossilized Amber Embossing Glaze. Once the glue was dry, and the glaze adhered to the pull, I embossed it with a heat tool. The pull was then sanded a bit with a Sanding Disk, then rubbed with a bit of Cracked Pistachio Distress Paint, then dried. Once it was dry, I rubbed the pull with the Distress Crayon.

Here’s a look at all the pieces I had been working on before they were added to the box.

The inside piece were trimmed to fit within the box, stitched around the edges using my sewing machine, then adhered within the box using foam pieces.

I added a nail within the box to hang the optical lens, and added a phrase that I created using idea-ology clipping stickers. “to keep, with flowers, sweetly singing”. These were adhered with a little collage medium, rubbed with a bit of collage medium, and once dry, rubbed with some Distress Crayon to give the stickers some age.

The drawer pull was added to the top of the vignette using some vintage tack nails. Before adding all the parts within the box, I flicked on some watered down Antique Linen paint using a paint brush, then set the vignette aside to dry.

The parts for inside the box were arranged and adhered using collage medium and foam squares.

With that, my project was complete! I absolutely LOVE it and it gives me so much hope for spring…I can’t wait for warmer weather and all that loveliness that spring brings!
