Hello friends!
I am back again…this time with some watercolor inspiration. I LOVE the Tim Holtz Watercolor Pencils and especially like using them to color directly on stamps, then spritz with water and stamp onto watercolor paper creating the most beautiful watercolor impression. It is so easy and a fun way to make lots of stampings and cutouts for embellishing cards and tags.
Here I used a set of stamps by Simon Says Stamp entitled Watercolor Bouquet which comes with the dies that match in the set (set167wb). They are a perfect set for this technique creating a watercolor effect.

I just love how all the pieces came out. I truly am a sucker for watercoloring…and tags, and flowers.

Here is a peek at the set I used. The coordinating set really makes the creating process so much easier.

So, let’s get to it…
I started by selecting a few of the distress watercolor colors…I thought I’d aim for a more fall palette as hopefully, the weather will be starting to change here soon, I’m so ready for the cool down.
Using the pencils, I dipped each color into a little bowl of water and scribble the color onto my craft mat to activate the pigment, then I colored the stamp directly. I added two to three different colors onto the stamp then, on a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper (smooth side) I stamped. The watercolors are very pigmented so I got several stampings just by spritzing the stamp with a spritz of water and restamping. You can see in the photo below how many I did. Some were more washed out and some we very vibrant.. an this technique can look messy at first, but give it time, as it drys, whether naturally or with the help of a heat tool, you will see the beautiful effect as it drys.

After I stamped all the images I wanted, I spritzed the paper with a quick mist of unraveled Distress Mica Spray then I matched up the die with a matching flower, and cut them out. I used removable tacky tape to keep them in place as I ran them through my big shot…a huge life saver!

After they were all cut out, I made a couple background papers using the leftover watercolor puddles that I had on my craft mat. I used a paint brush to pick up the colors then painted them on randomly to get a watercolor effect, then I dried them with my heat tool. After the paper was dry, I used a quick mist of Mica Stains to add more sparkle to the backgrounds.
I used the Simon Says Stamp Nested Rounded Tags to cut out a variety of tags, then began arranging the watercolor pieces.

I adhered the flowers to the tags using foam squares to add some dimension and added reinforcements to the tops of each of the tags. The largest tag was used on the front of a card. I watercolored a background and trimmed it to fit the front of a card front. I stitched around the outside edge using my sewing machine, then added a eyelet to the top of the tag. I applied the tag to the front of the card.
I stamped some phrases for the front of the card onto some scrap paper and trimmed them, then applied them using some foam adhesive.

With that, my card and tags were complete.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
Creatively yours,
Stacy
