Choose to Shine

Hello and Welcome…

I’m back today with another tutorial for a card created for the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Creativation 2019 Booth. This winter has been a REAL winter in Ohio, snow, below zero temps and gloomy sunless days. I don’t know how it’s been in your neck of the woods, but I am BEYOND ready for spring!!! Birds chirping, the sun shining and temps above 60 degrees sounds AMAZING!!! This card gives me all of those spring and summer feels.

It was made with the new Glorious Garden stamp set (CMS366) and it surely lives up to its name. I am a huge “Glorious” fan, and have loved every single one of them, if your keeping count, this is the 3rd one. I’m kind of keeping my fingers crossed that Tim has a Fall one up his sleeve (wouldn’t that be AWESOME), but this one is my absolute FAVORITE…at least so far 😉 It has a lot more open areas which makes it wonderful to watercolor. Which for me, is one of the most relaxing ways to create a card background.

I chose to keep the card pretty simple because the glorious thing about any of the “Glorious” stamp sets…they speak for themselves.

Let’s begin!

I started by stamping glorious with my Stamp Platform using Black Soot Archival Ink onto a piece of Distress Watercolor Paper. Then I embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder.

I began coloring the flowers with a variety of Distress Markers and a Detail Water Brush until it was to my liking. Sorry, I was so busy coloring that I forgot to snap anymore photos during the coloring process. 🙂

After my coloring was complete, I randomly stamped the Entomology (CMS328) handwritten background stamp around the flowers. Then I blended the edges of the card with Black Soot Distress Ink, spritzed it with a bit of water. dabbed it with a towel, and dried it with my heat tool.

I stamped the phrase “Choose to Shine” onto a scrap of watercolor paper, embossed it with clear embossing powder and trimmed off the end to create a banner edge, and blended black soot around the edge of the phrase.

I wrapped a piece of **Crinkle Ribbon that had been dyed with a variety of green distress spray stains several times around the phrase strip and then tied a bow.

**Here’s the how to for the ribbon…

This is leftover ribbon that I used at Christmas on some tags that I shared back in December, so you may recognize it!

I dyed the Crinkle Ribbon with a variety of Distress Spray Stains. The spray stains are wonderfully concentrated and are perfect for creating bright colored ribbon. I sprayed the ribbon with a bit of water and then began adding sprays of colors, then dried it with my heat tool.. it’s that easy but if you don’t like getting your fingers inky, wear gloves! 🙂 The Distress Spray Stains I used for the ribbon were… Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters, Evergreen Bough, and Antiqued Bronze.

Now, back to the card…

I cut an additional piece of watercolor paper to place behind the phrase. This piece was colored with a selection of yellow distress markers and detail water brush. Then I dried it with my heat tool and smooshed some random spots of black soot ink onto it.

I adhered my phrase banner to the front of the card and with my sewing machine and black thread, messy stitched around the outside of the card. I then matted it to a black card base. With that, my card was complete.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Creatively yours,

Stacy

    Hi Stacy,

Where in Ohio are you from? I’m from North Madison. Lake Erie is about a block away from me. The gray gloomy days seem to be never-ending here. But, this week I’ve seen sunshine!! I’m new to your blog. I love what I see and it is all so inspiring!

Snowing here today, again. Cold, but not as cold as it has been or can get. Supposed to get above freezing the next few days a few peeks of sunshine (yeah!) , before the next storm moves in to Southwest Kansas. I am wishing for a Fall version of Glorious, too! Fall is my favorite time of year (except for the Ragweed, LOL), I just love all the colors, the start of Holidays and the warmish days and cool, crisp nights! That’s what I’m talking about, I digress…
I love to sit and color and get lost in my thoughts and time…this stamp is Glorious…

My, oh my! Beautiful card using that Glorious stamp. I was persuaded to purchase the winter version by your lovely work, but it still sits unused as of now. Thankfully, these flow effortlessly from season to season. Thank you for your inspiration! Hugs and prayers for warmer days ahead for you.
