Happy Friday, friends!
I hope you’ve had a beautiful week. I am back today with a card that I created using a background from my ever-growing background basket…
My basket has been growing by leaps and bounds following all the AWESOME Tim Demo Saturday’s, and I thought it might be a good idea to start using some of them. Deciding what to make is sometimes one of the hardest parts about making for me. Grabbing that big basket of backgrounds was the perfect jump start that I needed to get to making.
I reached for that lovely new distress color, Speckled Egg (sorry, not sorry for using this awesome color again. LOL! 😉 ) and the new Stacked Hexagon and Scribbly Butterfly thinlet sets to make the card.
I created a framed panel a few weeks ago, using the stacked tiles and I’ve been eager to use them on a card.
The hex’s are perfect for cutting small bits and scraps of paper. Some little details were added to the tiles by stamping them with the new Field Notes ephemera stamp set CMS396.
So, let’s get to it!
This background may look a little familiar because I used one very similar to it on the Patriotic project that I created and shared on Memorial Day. Backgrounds are funny things..sometimes they don’t get the focus that they deserve. The color combo that I used was Speckled Egg, Black Soot and Fired Brick, then I mixed in some Antique Linen and a bit of Pumice stone. I absolutely loved this one, and just had to have it be one of the main focuses of the card. I mean, you put so much time and love into creating them, why shouldn’t they be?!
..here’s a peek at a bunch that I made and a link to the step-out process photos of how to create it.
To start off, I colored the little flower ephemera stamp CMS396 using a variety of Distress Markers (Victorian Velvet, Hickory Smoke, Peeled Paint and Evergreen Bough) then stamped it onto a scrap of paper, (I believe the scrap paper had been blended with Hickory Smoke Oxide Ink and spritzed with water, again, it was a scrap) then I trimmed it out with one of the hex’s.
I smooshed some Speckled Egg, Pumice Stone and Antique Linen Distress Inks onto a craft mat and spritzed the ink with water. I dipped the paper into the inks on the mat, then dried it with my heat tool.
I inked up the Entomology Background Stamp (CMS328) with both the speckled egg and pumice stone inks, spritzed it with water, then stamped it onto the the paper.
I stamped the “Received” stamp with Hickory Smoke Archival Ink then colored a little of the stamp with Speckled Egg ink using a Distress Water Brush.
Then I trimmed another Hex using the paper.
One of the Scribbly Butterflies was cut from Distress Watercolor Paper. I smooshed more of the inks onto a craft mat, spritzed the ink with water and dipped the butterfly into one ink, and then the other. While the butterfly was still wet from the ink, I sprinkled a little Hickory Smoke and Speckled Egg Embossing Glaze onto the butterfly and embossed it with a Embossing Gun.
I stitched around each of the tiles and the background with cream thread using my sewing machine. Both the background and edges of the tiles were blended with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.
I stamped the phrase “use your wings” from the Tiny Text stamp set (CMS394) onto a scrap of paper, using Speckled Egg Oxide Ink, then embossed it with the glaze.
A small button was applied to the smallest tile using collage medium.
I arranged the layout then adhered the tiles to the background using foam tape.
The butterfly was added, the background applied to a card base, and with that… my card was complete.
Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a fantastic weekend doing things that make you happy! See you soon!
Creatively yours,
Stacy

Gorgeous on every level
Your card is wonderful – love the colors and design! Thanks so much!
Prettiest card I’ve seen in awhile. Love it, and I can see why you wanted it to be the focus. wow!
Oh, I LOVE this one. I am soooo envious of your talent and creativity! Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us!!
Your art, always a breath of fresh air and color! Thank you for laying out each step with such beautiful photography!
As I read your post your comment about the backgrounds sometimes not receiving their due (some paraphrasing here) resonated with me. Sometimes the background is the star for me and I have a genuinely difficult time putting the layers where they must be. I must take a ritual deep breath and do what is needed but it hurts. Beautiful card Stacy, as always.
Absolutely gorgeous, this is one of my favorite speckled egg projects!
Stacy, you have created an elegant and most beautiful card! The steps you have taken to achieve this result are certainly worth the effort. Thank you for continuing to inspire us!
Oh, Stacy! Another gorgeous card… I can’t help but to chuckle a tiny bit with the nonchalance with which you end each post, “and with that… my card was complete.” By the time I see that phrase, I am in utter awe of of the depth and breadth of your talent that is presented in each make. You are truly one of the great talents in the way in which you are able to manipulate the products to do what you want them to do. Thank you for your talent and inspiration! ❤️
Love the soft grundge! Reminds me of vintage wall paper.
Perfect timing!! I was recently going thru backgrounds I pulled from a gel plate a while back and wondered what to do with them! While working on a project I pulled out the hex dies (which I just received) and used them on a background to add some to the project. Love what the hex dies can do!! You have demonstrated how I could step up this idea even further, which I appreciate very much. Beautiful card. Thanks so much for sharing. I struggle with backgrounds and seeing what you do/how you do it is a big help.
Beautiful Stacy and the background is amazing. The technique is something I haven’t tried yet being relatively new to stamping and inks. I am waiting the arrival of Speckled Egg. I do LOVE that colour so please share it anytime in your makes. Great card and thank you for taking us through the steps.
Gorgeous card, Stacy! You are truly an artist. The depth and detail you add to all of your creations just blows my mind. Thank you for the step by steps you give. Makes it look easier than it is, I think, but your results are always so beautiful.
Brilliant Stacy! You create the most beautiful and elegant projects 💙💙💙
a background basket sounds genius! I’d love a pic of your background basket!
Another really beautiful project, Stacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, just gorgeous, love that background and great layout!
Stacy I Can’t say how much I admire this card. The colours are so perfectly balanced, delicate and feminine but not to cute, speckled egg was the perfect new colour for you! The butterfly and delicate colours create a sense of fragility thats perfect for a butterfly and the hexagons and chintzy flowers summon up all those ladies at their quilting sessions. I love the tiny touches that make your work so special, the ring of contrast in the postmarks colouring, the tiny flowers from feild notes, the single sewn on button all understated and just right. Its my new favourite now! 🙂 thanks for sharing the steps and so many photos x
