Hello friends! Happy Summer! I hope this post finds you well…I have been busy digging in my garden and getting things ready for all the summer beauty outside, so my indoor activities have been resting a bit, until now!
Tim and Sizzix just released some LARGE 3D A5 size Embossing Folders and I was lucky enough to give them a try and share some of the backgrounds that I made using them. Two of my projects were featured on the LIVE that Tim hosted a couple weeks ago…to see it, CLICK HERE to check out all of the product and inspiration..plus some demos too!
This post will focus on a few of the backgrounds I created…I had a play day and just went to town making, then used a couple of them to create the projects for the LIVE. All of these were made using Distress Watercolor Paper, smooth side.
Here’s a peek at all the backgrounds I made using the new folders.

Five different 3D Texture Fades Folders were released that included…3-D Texture Fades Lumber (666884), Typewriter (666885), Entangled (666886), Botanical (666888) and Foundry (666887)…all so GOOD!
And the two projects that I created using the backgrounds…
Brimmed With Confidence- was made using the Foundry Folder. The Folders are now large enough to emboss a 5.5″ x 8.5″ piece of paper (a half of a sheet of Distress Watercolor Paper) YAY!! I LOVE it because I love making backgrounds to fit on the front of a Stampers Anonymous Mini Etcetera Tag. One of my favorite vignettes to create on.

The next background was made using the Entangled Folder…I then used that background to make two different cards using the one background!

Let’s make!
Start with a half sheet of Distress Watercolor Paper and I used Rusty Hinge Distress Spray and Oxide Spray, Brushed Pewter Spray Stain, Gathered Twigs Spray Stain, Cracked Pistachio Oxide Spray and Decayed Mica Stain. You will also need a Distress Archival Ink in Ground Espresso.

Spritz the paper with water, then some spritzes of the rusty hinges, brushed pewter, gathered twigs, and decayed mica stain. Spritz randomly, then dry with a heat tool…add additional drips of stain after dry, then dry again.

Rub the inside of the embossing folder using Ground Espresso Archival ink, and add the inky paper, then run the Embossing Folder through your Sizzix machine.

Remove the embossed paper then rub the ink pad directly onto the embossed textured area and blend around the brown using a blending tool to create some grunge.

Spritz some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Spray onto a craft mat and a spritz of water next to it. Using your fingertips or a brush, add color to create some rusty oxidation, and dry with a heat tool. ๐ YUM!

Then finish it off by blending some Walnut Stain Distress Ink using a blending tool!

Next, the Entangled Folder that I used to create these cards.

This time, instead of adding all of the Spray Stains to the background watercolor paper first, I embossed the piece of paper first using Black Soot Archival Ink that was smooshed onto the folder, spritzed with water, then run the paper through your Sizzix Machine. After the paper was embossed, I dried it with a heat tool, then spritzed the embossed areas using a variety of Spray Stains that included Iced Spruce, Speckled Egg, Faded Jeans and Frayed Burlap Oxide Spray and Decayed Mica Stain, then dried it with my heat tool.
The Black Soot Archival ink stays in place because it’s permanent, so it didn’t blend with the Spray Stains too much in order to create the moodiness and let the colors show through in the embossed patterns.
Then I rubbed the embossed area with Black Soot and Ground Espresso Archival Ink, then blended it with a blending tool.

And a bonus background using the new Typewriter Folder…just because its such a Fabulous Folder..project undetermined yet ๐

Spritz a paper with water and a combination of Crushed Olive, Tumbled Glass and Iced Spruce Spray Stains..plus a little Specimen Mica Stain, then dry with a heat tool.

Run the paper through the Typewriter Folder…

Rub the embossed area using some Foundry Wax using your fingers or a blending tool, then heat with an embossing tool to activate the shine.
I used a combo of both Statue and Sterling.

With that, my backgrounds were complete and ready to be used on future projects! I always have so much fun making backgrounds because there are no rules, if you wonder if something will work, then try it, it may be the magic you were looking for!
