Hello friends!
I’m back again..and this time, with a tutorial using one of my new favorite stamp sets from the new Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous Christmas Stamp release. The LIVE with Tim and Stampers was today and he premiered his latest stamps for this coming holiday season. If you missed it you can hop over to timholtz.com and check out the replay. As always, it is a wonderful collection of festive stamp sets that are sure to get you in the mood for this upcoming holiday season. Click HERE to check out the entire collection.
One of my favorite sets from this year is the new Mr. Frostie Stamp set that features some pretty adorably vintage snowmen. I am a sucker for an adorable snowman, and this set is PERFECT! Not only does it feature two adorable snowmen, but the snowflakes and phrases are so wonderful too…you know I love a cute handwritten font! Anyways, I chose to use the full snowman image and colored him up to be made into a small gift box and tag set. Perfect for winter or Christmas gift giving! Use the box and tag for a gift card, small gift or candy or use the tags on gift bags…the possibilities are endless!
Here’s a peek at the set in its entirety… isn’t it precious??! I LOVE it!
To get the makes started, I spritzed some Distress Watercolor Paper using a combination of both Distress Spray Stains and Distress Mica Spray. I started by spraying the paper with water, then some Speckled Egg, Weathered Wood and Brushed Corduroy Sprays stains, I dried it with my heat tool a bit, then spritzed on some Unraveled and Frozen Fog Mica Stains.
I made several of this combination of backgrounds then began stamping snowmen using my stamping platform. I stamped the image using Black Soot Archival Ink, then left the snowman that I stamped in the platform. I colored the image using Distress Watercolor Pencils, the using a damp brush, colored in the image.
Here’s a closeup of the snowman and if you notice closely, he has a slight white tint to him…especially in his facial area. I did this by first coloring in (or scribbling) the Picket Fence Watercolor Pencil into the areas where white would be.
It gave that area a whiter look and took out a little of the spritzed colored areas so that he didn’t look quite as dingy.
Then I just colored the rest of his parts in being sure to add a little pink to his cheeks…that was done by using some unraveled mica spray that I puddled on my mat, then dipped the Victorian Velvet Watercolor pencil into it and dripped some of the color onto his face where cheeks would be…in my opinion, everything needs pink cheeks, even snowmen!
Using the Black Soot Watercolor Pencil, I scribbled tiny areas around the snowman and inside of him to give him a little artistic look. Once he was all colored up and mostly dry, I re-stamped him using the Black Soot Archival Ink and my stamp platform. This isn’t a priority when it comes to finishing him, it was just a way for Mr. Frostie to have very crisp lines. The Watercolor pencils are opaque so this brings the crispness back.
The first two snowman backgrounds were used to create the pillow box fronts, so I stamped a musical background randomly onto the paper, then embossed it using Liquid Platinum Embossing Powder, then I stamped a couple of the smaller snowflakes onto the background.
I then cut out the snowman fronts and the backs for the pillow boxes and built them using Scor-tape. I cut some lengths of 1/4″ Seam Binding Ribbon then dyed it with Spray Stain and dried it using my heat tool. I wrapped the ribbon around the box and tied a small bow.
Once I had my pillow boxes, I needed to fill them…so, I went back and stamped 8 more snowman on my scrap papers and colored backgrounds and repeated the process of coloring the snowmen up. Don’t they look so cute all gathered together!?
I cut out 8 of the snowmen using the Circle Vintage Label Dies and then punch a hole in the top to tie on a piece of string and tie a ribbon bow.
I stitched on a button to the end of each of the pillow boxes and then placed 4 of each of the tags inside.
With that, my boxes and tags were complete!
