Hello friends! WOWZA! What a fun Saturday it was to spend with Tim, celebrating the release of the new 2024 idea-ology. If you missed it CLICK HERE and check it out! The new line is PERFECTION! It’s just so FUN to create with, and mixing into projects along with real vintage things is my all time favorite thing to do. As some of you know, I am a vintage lover, junker & thrifter. I come from a long line of them and started collecting little bits and pieces of things when I was around the age of 8, maybe even before. Inevitably at garage sales, thrift stores & estate sales there are tins, jars or the like that contain “junk drawer” bits such as rusty nails, thumb tacks, keys, paperclips, dice, game pieces, jewelry pieces, buttons etc…and it’s always the first thing that I make a beeline to as you never know what tiny treasure might be hidden inside.
This project stems from my love of vintage and all those bits and pieces of treasures that I’ve found along the way. “Made Good 2 Collect” is made with so many cool new idea-ology products including Large Collage Strips, Archives Collage Paper, Photo Studio Layers and before I BURST, my Favorite new item… Cello Sticker Tape! (I’ve literally been waiting YEARS for something like this!!!))
The project is made within a idea-ology Reliquary Dome and has a tiny collection of vintage bits held within a Small Display Dome that is made to display next to it. Both domes are still able to open just in case I find more treasures to slip inside. It’s always good to have options!
So, let’s get to it…
I started with one of the Large Collage Strips and found these two handsome gentlemen that looked as though they could have been little collectors too! Then the project took off from there…
I cut the strip down a bit leaving the “made good” portion then selected a frame and back from the Photo Studio Layers pack. The large collage strips fit PERFECTLY within the frames.
I adhered the portion of the collage strip to a piece of scrap paper using collage medium, then dried it with my heat tool.
I sanded the edges of the photo frame with my sanding disk tool, then rubbed the edges with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I placed the frame over the collage strip and placed a small piece of mica tile over top of the photo then took the pieces over to my sewing machine and stitched some random stitches over the edges to connect the tile, frame and collage strip together.
Next, I cracked open my new package of Cello Sticker Tape… Oh my goodness, what a wonderful new fun thing to add to projects! This stuff is THE BOMB! If there is only one item that you buy from this release, it has got to be this one. In fact, I need to hop over to Simon Says Stamp and buy myself at least 5 more packages of it. I have literally been waiting YEARS for something like this to come out.
If you love vintage, then you know that you’ve seen “real” cello tape on photos, packages and just about anywhere there might have been something ripped and the owner had applied tape. Fast forward and many years later, the tape that they used has taken on a golden patina of sorts, and becomes brilliantly vintage and YUM. This new idea-ology tape adds all that wonderful patina and age without all the waiting years for it to happen…BRILLIANT I tell you! YUMMMM!!
But, I digress, let’s get back to the making… 😉
I added the back of the photo frame behind, then wrapped a couple edges of my frame with some pieces of Cello Tape, then I roughed up the edges to give it some age with my distress edge tool. I rubbed the edges with a Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to both the tape and frame, this is what added the gritty grunge to the tape. My vintage heart smiled, and I moved on. 🙂
Here’s a look at the back of the project so that you can see how I added the back of the frame and wrapped the tape around the edges.
The Reliquary Dome…
I sanded the bottom cork using the sanding disk, brushed off the tiny bits, then rubbed the cork with some Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
I added some small strips of the new Archives Collage paper to the edges of the cork. To apply the collage paper, I brushed on some collage medium onto the cork, applied the strips of paper, then went over top of the paper with a light coat of collage medium. Then I dried it with my heat tool. I did this same process to the cork from an idea-ology small dome that I used to hold the tiny collection.
Once the collage paper was totally dry, I rubbed the cork and paper with Walnut Stain Distress Ink using a blending tool.
I added a small torn bit of denim to the reliquary cork by applying it with collage medium, then dried it with my heat tool, I hammered a couple of vintage nails into the cork piece and denim to create a photo holder or sorts. The nails that I placed were used to create an “easel” to hold the frame. Once the nails were placed, I added the photo, then added some collage medium along both the front and back.
I let the photo dry while I moved on to the idea-ology mini stencil. To add age, I used my sanding disc blender across the front and edges, then rubbed it with some Black Soot Distress Ink, dried it with a heat tool, then rubbed it with some Black Soot Distress Ink. I tried to focus the paint around the number as if it were a vintage stencil that had been used many times.
I placed a piece of tape at the top of the stencil, then rubbed the entire piece with Walnut Stain Distress Crayon. This stencil was later rubbed with the word “collect” from the Specimen Remnant Rubs then placed on the front of the dome by adding vintage nails through the stencil and cork. I chose not to adhere the stencil to the front of the glass dome so that I could add more goodies down the road if I chose to do that.
I gathered a few idea-ology bits and dug through random vintage things…the little dog I thought would be a cute addition to the dome, so I rubbed it with some Vintage Photo Distress Paint and set it aside to dry. I chose to not use the Stan in the end since I thought he stood so well within the dome on the denim.
I placed a few of the vintage goodies inside the dome and applied them with collage medium and set it aside too dry. While I was excavating through my vintage bits, I decided that I found so many fun things, that I’d add a small dome full of the goodies for display next to the large dome.
Some of the little things inside the small dome included vintage paper clips, a cufflink, a couple wood dice, a couple snaps and buttons, a jack, nails, a couple screws, a nut and bolt, a key and more…it was fun stuffing all the little things inside the dome and looks so cute sitting next to the reliquary dome. Made good to collect..yep, that’s about right for all things involved!
With that, my project was complete!

Wow 3 posts in one week. You have been busy. I was in total heaven during Tim’s live on Saturday and your dome was one of the things I especially loved. All the bits and pieces fascinate me and I agree that cello tape is fabulous. Thanks once again.
